what branch of the military can you serve in with tattoos? neck and ear?

Question by Melanie: what of the can you in with ? neck and ear?
my best friend has her heart set on joining the military (navy, coast guard, etc.) but recently found out that because she has a tattoo behind her ear and one on her neck that she can’t join. they’re nothing offense, flowers and stuff, but have meaning to her so she doesn’t want to get them removed. is there any branch she can join with these visible tattoos, or does she have any options at all?

No, she has no options. Tattoos are allowed but they can cover no more than 25% of any body part and they must not be seen while in uniform.

The Army allows tattoos on the neck but she would have to get with a recruiter about the one behind her ear. The regulation prohibits tattoos on the face except for permanent makeup that is conservative. If it is behind her ear then technically it isn’t on her face but they would need to see it to tell her yes or no. I’m not sure about the other services but a Google search can get you their regulations. I put the army regulation below.

what the person above me said is not true. In the Army you can have them visible while in uniform but you have to get a waiver which is very easy. as long as you dont have tattoo’s all over your face.

Many branches of the military are struggling to achieve their annual recruiting goals. One problem is the strict guidelines governing tattoos. Too assist in achieving goals, the entry standards are changing frequently. Tell your friend to visit the local recruiters office to get the most up to date information and confirm eligibility requirements
